The Major Cities

Below are listed several of the major cities found on the Continent of Trin'Dar.  For a map of Trin'Dar please visit the Downloads section of the website.

Beladan

Beladan was completed in the year 12 AE and is the oldest city of the new settlers to Trin’Dar. It has a population of 12000. The city was built in a time of war and its design reflects this. It is set in at the end of the continent’s only mountain range, Ral’Mon (meaning huge earth) and sits astride the river, Ry’Dra (meaning fast water) that leads to the city of Aristis. This river entrance, the Dock Gate and the two other gates, Kings Door on the left and Forest Gate on the right, are set in a high wall. The river Ry’Dra is not navigable beyond the Dock Gate. The city has three walls that segment the city. The first and highest wall is called Talon’s Wall, the second is called Talon’s Rest and the last gate is called The King’s Reach.

The city is a military stronghold and the cultural centre of the continent. It was founded on the royal line of Talon, an elven king. Currently, the city is run by an elected steward who holds the city in trust for the heir to the throne, wherever and whenever that person comes forward.

The city layout was carefully planned and has specific areas of the elvish and dwarven population. The top of the city holds the palace, temples and noble houses, between the first and second walls are the elvish and dwarvish sections, the gentry houses, and also the market. Between the second and final wall are the garrison houses and the military barracks.

The current Steward of Beladan is Steward Wellgrey. A cabinet of advisors that numbers four aids him, and represents the races:

Sahaylan

Dwarven

Human

Rogma

Aristis

Aristis was established in1340. It has a population of 7000. It was settled primarily by citizen of Beladan. The founders were five Dwarves and three humans. The area was where the river Ry’Dra opens into the marshes of Arus. The area outside of the city itself is a series of irrigation ditches and farm fields at are flooded or drained with the use of Dwarven technology.

Like Harbordon, Aristis has established guilds. But guilds do not run the city. The city has an appointed mayor and council of four that serve as a cabinet of advisors. The current mayor is a Dwarf named Truv Son of Ruv. The Steward of Beladan appoints mayors. He or she is mayor as long as the steward deems them capable. Council members are appointed by the mayor and represent the different races and strata of society.

This city has a series of three docks called Ry’Dra’s Daughters; Dawn, Eve and Morrow. The dock and warehouse area bleeds into the commercial and residential area. The centre of town houses the public buildings including the council chamber and the meeting hall.

Before the swamps were drained, the river emptied into a flood plain and the marsh went to the sea.The River Ry’Dra, now empties uninterrupted into the sea. Water is the main way that Aristis trades with Beladan.

Harbordon

The city of Harbordon was first established in the year 23 at the site of the original landing on Trin’Dar. It has a current population of 25,000 people. The city has a huge harbor and extensive pier and dry dock system. The harbor also has the largest lighthouse on the continent. This lighthouse is called “The Watcher” and juts out on a shored up peninsula and can be seen for quite a distance.  The city is the centre for trade on the continent and the trade road leads all the way to its warehouse district. The only indication t hat you have entered the city proper is its transformation from dirt to paved stone. The main road is called Harbors Boulevard. The boulevard is easily three times the size of any other road in Trin’Dar and boasts several levels. The main road is for wagon and heavy trade. A raised roadway hugs this for the mounted horseman, light carriage, and wagon trade. Finally there is a wooden walkway on the outside for simple pedestrian traffic. This is the only completely straight road in the city. Many of the others roads radiate from this road at angles or come out from the docks. This is not a planned city and streets change name from section to section.

The harbor is like a floating city with ships moving to the piers and back out to sea. There is, in fact, a complex system of signals used to keep the harbor moving. The Signalman, an off shoot of the dockworkers guild, time high and low tide and carefully gauge windage and other weather conditions.

You can find the Guild houses of Harbordon dotted around the city. These are the most influential of the guilds in all of Trin’Dar. These guilds do, in fact, run the city of Harbordon with the guilds voting in the most respected of the guild heads to head all of their affairs. The current head of Harbordon is Jerman Brenn. He is the head of the Dockworkers guild. Jerman is a large muscular man. It is rumored that he was voted in by the other members simply so they could use him as a puppet leader. It soon became apparent that they were wrong. Jerman came in to his own. He has steered the city with the far thinking strategy that he ran the dockworkers guild. He cut the crime level in half by hiring town guard that are an independent entity. He has led the other guilds, slowly, to alter their guild laws in order to compete with Aristis.

Salarinan

This city has a population of 8435 citizens. This includes the city itself and the settlements that dot the forest. The city straddles the trade road with the city mostly on one side and the Lake of Stars, and the school of magic on the other. The school is called The Comet’s Path and is said be on the location chosen by the goddess, Sahayla.

The city was carefully designed to blend seamlessly into the forest. The houses are finely crafted and are decorated with themes taken from nature. The citadel is the only stone structure in the city. It is roughly fifty feet tall. The campus can house as many as 250 students. The school accepts all races. Currently 242 are enrolled.

A council leader governs them, with a council of elders to assist him. The current leader is an elderly elf named Genelos, who has been ruling for 100 years. The council itself numbers eight and represents many different aspects of elven society.

Fort Vesterlan

This fort was established in 502. It houses up to 1,000 soldiers with around 1,000 non-military residences. A small company of An'Lea warriors and trackers is in constant residence. This is the landing site of the human reinforcements that came in to assist the An-Lea against the minions of the Defiled lands. This alliance has remained strong.  This is primarily a military outpost and is most easily reached by water.

The harbor of Vesterlan is designed to load and unload military vessels and has a small lighthouse. It is not a commercial port and does not receive heavy traffic. The fort itself is built of huge hardwood logs from the An'Lea forest. The main wall is 15 feet tall. The technique used to select and place the logs used magic known to the An'Lea alone. Past the gate of the fort is the outpost. This is a handful of wooden building and stables for the 500 cavalry. The buildings are simple and military is design and function. The only concession to this is a small monument and flowering bush that marks the sight of the first landing of the human cavalry.

The Captain of Fort Vesterlan acts as liaison between the An'Lea and representatives of Beladan. The fort is the closest human military presence on this side of the defiled lands and provides vital information concerning troop movements and threats from the defiled lands on this side of the border.

Dragon’s Edge

This town was established in the year 300.It has a population of roughly 2650, mostly human, with the usual mix of other races. The population includes the town itself and its outlying cattle ranches and farms.

Dragon’s Edge is the only large settlement in the area due to an agreement with the dragons on the islands to the south. The agreement is simple and unique. The Humans are allowed to live near the dragons' island and are permitted to fish in the sea as long as they are not within a certain distance from the islands. The town maintains herds of large cattle and an area with a huge box canyon. Once a year, in the spring, the dragons fly over the town and enter the canyon for a week of feasting. At this time, select townspeople are allowed to go to the Dragon Island. While they are there, they mint the Dragon Coins from a metal is exclusive to that place.

This town is known for several unique items of trade. They breed the largest cattle and harvest the largest seafood on the continent. They are also the primary exporter of magical components of a dragon origin.

The overland sight of the town is of a plains area dotted with ranches and farms. The town itself is constructed of stone and wood. The buildings are mostly one story with dragon related decorations and large, flat stones inset on the roofs and upper portions of the taller buildings. This is used as a beacon guide to the dragons.

The town has a mayor and council of elders that is elected and serves for life unless proven unable to carry on their duties. There is a seat on the council that is called The Dragon’s Chair. This place is for the current dragon representative to attend the council meeting if he or she chooses.

The harbor of Dragon’s Edge is modest. It is capable of handling up to midsized ships. The dock itself sits a distance from the town and is not used constantly. Fishing boats do go out on the water, but tend to be fortified and clumsy looking. The design is to protect the men from the unusually large sea life found in this part of the ocean.

Toblorn Pass

This town was established as a Rogma settlement in the year 1096. It has a population of roughly 700 Rogma. This number fluctuates slightly as young Rogma often go out into the world to make their fortune. This is the largest settlement of only Rogma on the continent. It is deep within the Mountains and is difficult to reach. The Rogma have a winding road that they maintain and it is not considered wise to stray from it.

The town itself has three public buildings. The town library is meant to be the most impressive building and is in the centre of town. On the left i s the schoolroom and on the right are the council chambers. The council is made up of elder Rogma females. Currently there is a Sahaylan elf that acts as the town’s diplomat, and the most powerful Rogma summoner that holds a seat at the meetings.

The town sits on a flat expanse that is the last hospitable section on this side of the mountain. The area is inhabited by dangerous creatures and large carnivorous plants that are the result of the backlash that created the Defiled Lands.
